Springfield, IL, January 18, 2013 – United Cerebral Palsy Land of Lincoln will host their annual Telethon on Sunday, January 27, 2013 on WICS-TV from 11:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. live from the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Over 300 local volunteers will staff the phone banks in Beardstown, Bloomington, Carlinville, Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Morrisonville, Pawnee, Pleasant Plains, Springfield, Chatham and Girard/Virden, raising money to support UCP’s programs and services.
The UCP Land of Lincoln Telethon started in 1954 on WICS. Paul Wappel and Jill Egizii, will again host the six-hour UCP Telethon. Special guest hosts include: WICS morning and midday meteorologist, Joe Crain; former WICS news anchor, Julie Staley; WFMB morning talk show hosts, John Spalding & Michele Mitchell; WICS anchor/reporter Marrianne Manko, WICS anchor/reporter Liz Foster and Artistic Director for the Hoogland Center for the Arts, Gus Gordon.
The Telethon is UCP’s largest single fundraising event. UCP provides programs and services to over 1,000 children and adults with various disabilities in Central Illinois. Services include job training and placement, assistive technology, summer camps, residential support, day services, respite, case management, and advocacy.
United Access will have a Super Six Team manning the telephones to encourage individuals to make pledges in order to support UCP and their mission to serve individuals with disabilities!
